== Familiar Bonuses ==

Each familiar grants a [[soft]] skill bonus, when they are actively summoned and in close proximity to their master (10m).
:*This skill is based on the base selected familiar and the bonus caps at HD 10, totaling 10 points.
:*The skills granted by familiars do not contribute to the calculations for breaking into [[Quarter|Quarters]]
At HD 15, familiars also gain the ability to auto-translate '''one''' of their native languages to their master.
:*For most familiars, this is Animal, but many more of them are capable of understanding and translating elemental, planar, racial, and sometimes esoteric languages.
:* Familiars will only and exclusively use their own languages, regardless of what their master speaks.
:* Familiars CAN NOT teach any languages.

| rowspan="8" | Bat<br>Search
| Bat
| Animal
| These winged, nocturnal rodents are rarely considered threatening in  their own right, though traditional folklore does associate them with  vampirism and the undead.
|-
| Black Cat
| Animal
| Cats are valued by humanoids for companionship and ability to hunt small  vermin and household pests. For that reason they are most often found in  inhabited regions as pets, or sometimes as wild cats. Halruaan mages believe  that cats are attracted to spellcasting, and Cormyr has constitutional laws  against harming cats.
|-
| Black Owl
| Animal
| Owls are birds known for silent movements, keen eyesight, excellent  hearing, and an often mythical wisdom. They are nocturnal creatures that  largely hunt smaller creatures, like small mammals or lizards.
|-
| Meenlock
| Deep Speech
| Meenlocks are horrid little humanoid creatures covered in bristly black  hairs, with bulging eyes and vicious pincers for hands. Though they stand  less than two feet tall, a supernatural aura of fear surrounds them, filling  those who see them with panic.
|-
| Mouse
| Animal
| Rodents common throughout Faerûn, mice are a frequent sight. Ilmater, the  deity of suffering and martyrdom, is said to cause the appearance of field  mice to indicate his favour, or encourage his faithful.
|-
| Parrot
| Animal
| Brightly coloured and exotic birds, parrots vary in size but always have  brilliantly hued plumage, strong wings and sharp talons and beaks.
|-
| Stirge
| Animal
| A stirge can be summed up as resembling a monstrous cross between a large  bird and an oversized mosquito. With short and furry bodies, membranous and  bat-like wings, and a sharp needle-like proboscis, the unpleasant stirge  consumes blood for its diet and nothing else.
|-
| Tabby Cat
| Animal

For that reason they are most often found in  inhabited regions as pets, or sometimes as wild cats. Still, it's probably best  to be careful.

[The Astrolabe]

A Familiar is a special type of associate for several of the arcane spell casters, they gain levels as their master gains level in any class that can summon a familiar.

Arelith Customizations

  • Summon Familiar has a cooldown of 10 minutes, starting the moment the familiar is slain or dismissed.
  • The console command -associate allows player to speak through their familiar without possessing it.
  • The console command -familiar allows the caster to change the look (skin) of their familiar once on every level.
  • The -familiar chat command can now be used to rename familiars. This is done by adding the parameter "name". Example: -familiar name NewName. To prevent typos, the command needs to be entered twice to confirm the desired name. Characters can change their familiar's name once every 15 days and after every level up.
  • Pixie familiar no longer has ranks in Open Lock and Disarm Trap.
  • Any class that receives the familiar feature will add to the HD of the familiar.

Obtaining a Familiar

These classes receive a familiar as part of their class kit:

These classes can take the Summon Familiar feat as a general or bonus feat:

Familiar Bonuses

Each familiar grants a soft skill bonus, when they are actively summoned and in close proximity to their master (10m).

  • This skill is based on the base selected familiar and the bonus caps at HD 10, totaling 10 points.
  • The skills granted by familiars do not contribute to the calculations for breaking into Quarters

At HD 15, familiars also gain the ability to auto-translate one of their native languages to their master.

  • For most familiars, this is Animal, but many more of them are capable of understanding and translating elemental, planar, racial, and sometimes esoteric languages.
  • Familiars will only and exclusively use their own languages, regardless of what their master speaks.
  • Familiars CAN NOT teach any languages.

Bat Animal These winged, nocturnal rodents are rarely considered threatening in their own right, though traditional folklore does associate them with vampirism and the undead.
Black Cat Animal Cats are valued by humanoids for companionship and ability to hunt small vermin and household pests. For that reason they are most often found in inhabited regions as pets, or sometimes as wild cats. Halruaan mages believe that cats are attracted to spellcasting, and Cormyr has constitutional laws against harming cats.
Black Owl Animal Owls are birds known for silent movements, keen eyesight, excellent hearing, and an often mythical wisdom. They are nocturnal creatures that largely hunt smaller creatures, like small mammals or lizards.
Meenlock Deep Speech Meenlocks are horrid little humanoid creatures covered in bristly black hairs, with bulging eyes and vicious pincers for hands. Though they stand less than two feet tall, a supernatural aura of fear surrounds them, filling those who see them with panic.
Mouse Animal Rodents common throughout Faerûn, mice are a frequent sight. Ilmater, the deity of suffering and martyrdom, is said to cause the appearance of field mice to indicate his favour, or encourage his faithful.
Parrot Animal Brightly coloured and exotic birds, parrots vary in size but always have brilliantly hued plumage, strong wings and sharp talons and beaks.
Stirge Animal A stirge can be summed up as resembling a monstrous cross between a large bird and an oversized mosquito. With short and furry bodies, membranous and bat-like wings, and a sharp needle-like proboscis, the unpleasant stirge consumes blood for its diet and nothing else.
Tabby Cat Animal Cats are valued by humanoids for companionship and ability to hunt small vermin and household pests. For that reason they are most often found in inhabited regions as pets, or sometimes as wild cats. Halruaan mages believe that cats are attracted to spellcasting, and Cormyr has constitutional laws against harming cats.
