Fishing is the process of using the fishing interaction points within Arelith to catch fish. Although easy with respect to make and equip a Fishing Rod then drop it into a Fishing interaction point within the module, it is a pervasive system. To make good use of the Fishing system there are multiple crafts involved in the fishing setup, catching different things and in making use of what you catch. The system is a World System and is available on land, under land (Underdark) and even on the boats (See Sailing System).

NOTE: This page is currently a Work in Progress and although I have linked it in places, and people will find their way here, it is not yet ready to be included under World Systems on the main screen and on the NavPanel.

Introduction

Getting Started

Basic Equipment

To jump right in and get started Fishing, you need Fishing gear, which can be found below in the #Crafting section below. There are a couple of key things you require to Fish, you need a Fishing Rod (with a Hook) and you need Bait. The higher the quality of the Fishing Rod and the higher the quality of the Bait, the better the quality of Fish and Fishing Junk you will catch. There are also a couple of optional, quality of life things, which can be crafted to decrease line casting time (Fishing) which can also be found in the #Crafting section below.

So, to begin, you need to:

  • Acquire and/or Craft a Fishing Rod
  • Acquire and/or Craft some Bait (see below).
  • (Optionally) Acquire and/or Craft the items that decrease 'line casting time

Baiting your Hook

When you first start out, you will not typically have any Bait as, to Craft it, requires Fish Guts which is a byproduct of Fishing. If you Fish without bait, as you can imagine, you will catch all sorts of Fishing Junk and even the occasional fish if you get lucky. To get started, a Fisher can use Bugs in place of the craftable Bait. Bugs can be acquired by using a Bug Jar.

  • If you use the Bug Jar's unique power on the Bug Jar OR on the ground where you see bugs, it will catch bugs.
  • Alternatively, you can use the Bug Jar's unique power (self only), you will be able to select a specific Bug to remove from the Bug Jar.
    • You then use the Bug's unique power on the Fishing Rod to add it as bait.

You now have a Baited Fishing Rod and you can Fish!

  • Note: If you examine the Fishing Rod, after it has been Baited, it will tell you what Bait is currently on the Fishing Rod.

Finding a place to Fish

The next step is to find a place to Fish. Within Arelith, you will find a variety of Fishin' Spot interactable areas (best found using your highlight object hotkey - TAB by default), near any source of water, excluding on Ships. If you click on one of these, with a Fishing Rod equipped, you will cast a line and you are Fishing!

While on a ship, instead use the -ship command, and select "Fish" from the dropdown menu on the right.

Hooks

  • Hook's can be #Crafted and can also be found as part of the Fishing Junk system.
  • Some Loot matrix Hooks can offer some advantages:
    • Runic Hooks: Decreases line casting time
    • Lucky Hooks: Increases quality of the catch
  • Use your gutting knife or butcher's cleaver on your fishing rod to return the currently equipped hook to your inventory. This loses the bait and will damage the fishing rod a little bit.

Note: Other hooks offer no advantages/disadvantages currently

Bait

  • Use a bug jar to get initial bait to fish with.
  • Use your gutting knife or butcher's cleaver on your catch to return materials to cook and build more bait with.
  • Gut Gutted Eel and Gutted Sardine a second time to turn them into generic meats and other items.
