Essences

Essences are liquids with special magical properties that can be applied on items, especially armors and weapons. There are many types of them prepared by alchemy specialists.

Effects of essences

The protective essences can be applied to armors and any item.

The offensive essences causing a damage are intended for improvement of weapons. Appearance of weapons can be changed with applied essences.

Only a single permanent essence can be applied at a time. When an permanent essence is applied on a weapon then all previous permanent elemental damage will be removed from that weapon (Acid, Cold, Divine, Electrical, Fire, Negative, Positive, and Sonic damage bonuses). This is done to prevent stacking of effects from essences.

  • If you apply a second permanent essence it will replace the effect of the first one, regardless of either essence's power.
  • All other permanent elemental damages present on the weapon will be removed as well, even when not originally added by essence. This can effect especially weapons created with the enchantment basin and some rare items. (Other enchantments such as keen, physical damage, enhancement bonuses and weight reductions are not effected by adding an essence.)
  • Specific elemental Damage vs Race is not wiped out applying an essence.


Temporary essences can be added to weapons with permanent essences. They will not remove the effect of the permanent essence and provide additional damage.
