Mithreas: "So long as you use -delete_character first, it's fine. having two active characters with the same name can cause a -lot- of bad stuff. But starting with a new char with the same name as one you've previously played is OK, so long as you never ever play the old copy again. Hence, -delete_character."
Due to a bug in Neverwinter Nights, the game remembers certain things about your character even after deletion, and applies that memory to a new character with the same name, even if it is not exactly the same character. Here is the recommended remake process.

Fireboar: Remaking with the same name on the same day as you deleted the old character is not recommended and causes problems that are low-priority to fix. It's fine after a reset though, so you can delete, wait for a reset and remake. You can also remake without deleting if you like, saving deletion for a later date.

While the cache creation used to keep quarters, bank accounts, shops and the like around if you created with the same name, this is no longer true. With the "no refunds" policy, if you create this way, and you lose your quarters or belongings, they will not be replaced.  Make sure you are aware of this when remaking your character.

* Issue the [[Console_commands#-delete_character|-delete_character]] command to delete your existing character.
* '''Important''': Wait until the next time there is a server reset. There is usually one every 24 hours, and you can check [http://portal.arelith.com/] to track server uptime.
* Create the new character.

If you make a new character it is very important to alter the name a bit (like  turning Carlos to Cárlos or the like). For renaming on most servers you can add a space, but this is NOT the case on Arelith. You -must- add or change a letter within the name for recreation.
Step 2 is very important, because the server must first "forget" about your old character. Failing to do so will result in the following:

It is '''Very Bad''' to have more than one character with the same name, mechanically. Don't ever do it!  Use [[Console_commands#-delete_character|-delete_character]] before recreating or use different name to avoid future problems.
* When you first log in, you will see your full bank account, and have access to any quarters, shops, citizenships etc. that your old character had.
* After the next server restart, or when you change server, you will lose '''all''' of your character's possessions, bank balance will reset and you will lose those things which were previously carried over from the old character.

When remaking your character, you have three options.

  • Fresh Start: Remake with a slightly different name. No transfer of items, gold or properties is allowed. This is just like creating a new character.
  • Remake with same name AFTER you use -delete_character command. Again, you will not retain craftpoints, shops, quarters, etc. See below for an extended explanation.
  • Ask a DM to delevel you to any level you want. Those levels will not be refunded.

Longer explanations

Deleveling

You can ask a DM for assistance with deleveling, but you will be not getting the removed EXP back. There are several alternative ways in which you can delevel by yourself:

  • You can use the Book of Deities for removal of EXP. Every time you switch deity you will lose 500 EXP.
  • Go on daring raids, die and respawn.
  • Spent gold on enchanting items with very little chance of success.

Remember: There are no refunds. You must gain the lost experience through normal means. Note also that the transfer of items or gold between any of your characters is not permitted.

Remake with same name

Due to a bug in Neverwinter Nights, the game remembers certain things about your character even after deletion, and applies that memory to a new character with the same name, even if it is not exactly the same character. Here is the recommended remake process.

  • Issue the -delete_character command to delete your existing character.
  • Important: Wait until the next time there is a server reset. There is usually one every 24 hours, and you can check [1] to track server uptime.
  • Create the new character.

Step 2 is very important, because the server must first "forget" about your old character. Failing to do so will result in the following:

  • When you first log in, you will see your full bank account, and have access to any quarters, shops, citizenships etc. that your old character had.
  • After the next server restart, or when you change server, you will lose all of your character's possessions, bank balance will reset and you will lose those things which were previously carried over from the old character.
