NWN Requirements

  • Alignment: Any non-evil
  • Feats: Alertness, Iron Will
  • Skills: Discipline 4, Lore 6, Persuade 8, Search 4

Prerequisites

In addition to the mechanical requirements, players will also need DM approval and possibly the completion of a DM quest before levels in the class can be taken.

To apply for a Prestige Class token, please contact DMs in game, via the DM channel.

Roleplay

If you want to take the prestige class Harper Scout, and to be counted as a full-fledged Harper for systems purposes you need to get a token from a DM (first meeting the requirements above). However, the Harpers have many allies, and you can play an ally of the Harpers without having the token or taking the class.

You could play a starting character as an agent of the Harpers, although getting in contact with the existing Harpers on Arelith island might take a very long time given their secrecy.

Players on Arelith do not need to fear that the class Harper Scout is metagamed from the playerlist, as the player's build is hidden. The class abilities are also quite subtle, so if you're careful it won't be obvious that you have the class.

The Harper Code

  • Harpers work against villainy and wickedness wherever they find it, but they work ever mindful of the consequences of what they do.
  • All beings should walk free of fear, with the right to live their lives as they wish.
  • The rule of law aids peace and fosters freedom, so long as the laws are just and those who enforce them lenient and understanding.
  • No extreme is good. For freedom to flourish, all must be in balance: the powers of realms, the reaches of the cities and the wilderlands into each other, and the influence of one being over another.
  • Whatever it takes, a Harper will do. Pride never rules the deeds of a true Harper.
  • Freedom is a multiversal right, though Harpers can spare themselves less freedom than those they work to protect when the need presents itself.
  • Harpers police their own. A Harper who hears the call of personal power can no longer hear the sweet song of the harp. A Harper who seizes power, and holds it above all else, is a traitor to the harp. Traitors must die for freedom to live.
  • Without a past, no being can appreciate what they have, and where they may be going.

Arelith Changes

There are five sub-classes of Harper Scout. You can choose one of the non-basic ones by speaking with the secret Harper NPC trainer.

Harper Scouts can vote in every election, even in places where they are not a citizen. The other Harper classes get this ability as well, but only with a full 5 levels in the class. However, no Harper (nobody with the Prestige Class permission token) may stand for election as a settlement leader. If the Harpers wish to rule directly, they will need an ally to stand in their place.

Harpers examining characters will get feedback if the person they are looking at also carries a Harper Pin (the Prestige Class token).

Harper Scout

This is the default Harper. Changes as follows.

  • Tracks - By using the "-tracks" command, a harper can detect enemies in the area, and assess the balance of a NPC population.
  • No Tymora's Smile, Sleep or Invisibility
  • Get +1 caster level (for all spells) at levels 1, 3 and 5.
  • Gain Skill Focus: Bluff at level 2.
  • Gain Lucky and Luck of Heroes at level 3.
  • Gain Epic Skill Focus: Bluff at level 4.
  • The Create Harper Item feat now gives you a Potion of Invisibility with the Cat's Grace potion, and a Potion of Attunement with the Eagle's Splendor potion.

Harper Mage

The Harper Mage loses all Scout bonuses except for the bonus feats and Harper Knowledge at level 1. Instead:

  • Harper Mages add their class level to their caster level for all arcane spellcasting.
  • Skill Focus: Spellcraft at level 2.
  • Auto Quicken Spell I at level 3.
  • Eschew Materials at level 5. This means that the Harper Mage no longer needs spell components.

Harper Priest

The Harper Priest loses all Scout bonuses except for the bonus feats and Harper Knowledge at level 1. Instead:

  • Harper Priests add their class level to their caster level for all divine spellcasting, and for Turn Undead purposes. This affects Favored Souls.
  • Additional +3 effective levels for Turn Undead purposes at level 2.
  • Reduce armor speed penalties by 10% at level 3. This does not stack with the Fighter class bonus.
  • At level 5, the Harper Priest gets all aspect boons (their deity counts as having all six Aspects for all purposes except participating in rituals).

Harper Paragon

The Harper Paragon loses all Scout bonuses except for the bonus feats. Instead:

  • Harper Paragons add their full Harper level to their caster level for all spellcasting.
  • Can use Detect Evil from level 1.
  • Divine Grace at level 3.
  • Turn Undead and Divine Shield at level 4.
  • Divine Might at level 5.

Master Harper

The Master Harper loses all Scout bonuses except for the bonus feats and Harper Knowledge at level 1. Instead:

  • Master Harpers add their full class level to their Bard level for determining the effect of Bardsong.
  • At level 2, their (normal) bardsong acts as a cure for lycanthropy for all who are affected by their song.
  • Skill Focus: Lore at level 3.
  • Epic Skill Focus: Lore at level 4.
  • Can use Bardsong (and curse song etc) unlimited times per day at level 5.

Known bugs

The Harper Paragon can't select Divine Might, Divine Shield or Turn Undead unless they have levels in an existing divine class. This[1] 2da file fixes this, but needs to be saved to your local override folder.
