There are 2 types of DR

Damage REDUCTION & Damage RESISTANCE

These do THE EXACT SAME THING, but because they aren't the same they stack, like how sneak attack, brutal attack, and death attack all do the same thing but stack because of different names

The highest of each only stacks though

If you have 5/- damage reduction and 5/- damage resistance, these will stack for effectively 10/-

If you have one source of 5/- damage reduction and a source of 6/- damage reduction, you only get the 6/-. Same for resistance

The ONLY exception to the above is Barbarian DR, Earthkin Defender DR, and Epic Damage Reduction. EDR is coded to stack with these class features of DR

Interestingly, most effects like stone skin and greater stone skin and premonition are reduction, so sources of resistance stack with them and apply before, making them last longer

Most every source in Arelith is reduction. This includes Stoneskin, Greater Stoneskin, Premonition, bracers (that are 5/+# such as Greensteel/Adamantine), Barbarian DR, Earthkin Defender DR, and Epic Damage Reduction.

The only major sources of resistance as of writing are healer cleric DR from div favor, SS marauder DR, and a unique loot matrix shield

Updated: damage resistance now includes SS marauder, healer cleric div power, loot matrix shields, and the Dr from elemental avatar

Stackable Damage Reduction

Note: Perfect Self uniquely stacks with Epic Damage Reduction but no other sources.

Unstackable Damage Reduction

Generally, when a creature has multiple sources of damage reduction, the one that reduces the most damage among those that are not overcome by an attack's enhancement bonus will apply. If there is a tie, the oldest reduction effect is used.

Examples:

Damage Resistance

Notes

This is a WIP, merely making an easier-to-link resources for understanding how these mechanics work. Thanks to svrtr for providing the explanation.
