Size of module

How large is Areliths file?

Fire Boar on Wed Jul 29, 2009:

"It's 50 MB for the underdark, 75 MB for the surface. The archived snapshots are 6-7 MB each (that's the full module with 7zip compression). The ERF format (used in nwm, mod, erf, hak, etc. files) doesn't use compression at all to allow fast loading, which is why it deflates so much.
That's the module though. The other main components are:
  • Plugins (such as chat, database bindings, etc). These are tiny and won't ever get bigger.
  • The character vault. This is where all the characters are stored, and it's enormous.
  • The database. This is rather big, but holds up well and is very manageable since the Bioware database is hardly used at all now.
  • The main NWN game. This could be stripped down a bit to save space (music could be removed and possibly even some of the huge bif files removed), but they're not getting any bigger since the patches have stopped coming in."
