Titles
All titles (such as King, Captain, Master of Noodles, etc.) must be earned In game. This means that your character won't be allowed to have a name like Captain Huge, or Lord Britches. Name him instead something like Fred, or Bob, and if they really are worthy of it, folks will start calling them Captain in game. If you name your character with a title right off the bat, we have the option of changing it ourselves.
Famous names
This goes for characters with famous names, as well. Drizzt Do'Urden and Frodo Baggins will not be making featured appearances in Arelith, sorry. Players can use common names, but they should not recreate famous characters, use unique famous names or their slight modifications. Neither belongs in the world setting. An one time joke char is one thing. A server full of them is another. To be fair to all, such characters are not allowed to anyone besides the 5% roll.
- "If a name risks breaching the immersion of an IC environment for a significant number of players, that's when I ask the player to change it." DM Watchtower
The solution is pretty simple. If player is in doubt about character's name, they can ask a DM. Or if they disagree with a ruling by a DM, then they can politely state own case to Jjjerm. Either solution should set the record straight and keep players from having to delete a char after playing with him for a while.
- "As a DM it's almost impossible for us to know all names that violate the rules of naming. We come from different parts of the world. And we come from many different backgrounds, which means our background knowledge is not the same.
- So if you see a name that you think is against the rules, do not hesitate to tell the DMs. We will then google it, and make a stand on it.
- The longer a char exist with an illegal name, the more painful it will be to the player. And taking such a name (or a name that does not cross the line, but close) might be fun for a short while, but it doesn't excactly impress the DMs when it comes to rating a player." Qizzia
Modified appearances
There are also some programs out there which may tempt some people to modify the appearance of their characters with wings, tails, etc. We do NOT allow this. We'll try to give you a chance on this one, since we understand that Ego, not Intellect, is at the helm. We will only delete the modded character on the the first offense, and save banning for the second.
It is also forbidden to use any heads or body parts (for example from hakpaks) that would make your character appear missing part of their bodies to other players without additional downloads.
Special characters
Players don't need something visual like a floaty-title or angel wings to make own character special. The really special characters are those who are roleplayed well, and who are in some way true to life, not the ones that throw up a big, neon, "I'M SPECIAL" sign in other player's faces.
Should players still desire some exceptional name or look, their only chance on Arelith would be 5% roll.
