| Rules of Engagement are one of the 5 golden rules of Arelith servers. The following are few explanations and clarifications for it.
| | #REDIRECT Rules#Player_Vs._Player_Interaction |
| | |
| | |
| There are two applications of this rule, both related to player versus player conflict. The first is about killing and the second is for theft. Rules and tips about events before PvP are described in article Player versus player rule.
| |
| | |
| === Death from PvP ===
| |
| If you engage in a player versus player conflict with someone and either of you dies, then do not interact with the other character for twenty four real life hours. You may run into each other by accident, but in that case, it's the responsibility of each player to quickly and quietly take their character somewhere else. The victor(s) in the conflict have the right-of-way in an area. The person(s) who died should attempt to respect their presence by departing quietly and keeping to themselves.
| |
| | |
| This helps with the roleplay that someone did, in fact, die and also takes them out of the conflict for a while, without forcing anything as drastic as permadeath on a character. It also gives everyone a chance to cool off a little and avoid the nasty little scenario where the dead person immediately comes back for revenge, someone dies, they come back, wash, rinse, repeat. We highly encourage you to resist the desire to rush right back in to "finish business." Each player will be held accountable for their own actions in such matters.
| |
| | |
| The twenty four hour rule is considered active between the character(s) who attacked and the character(s) who died. That is to say, if six people from Team A and six people from Team B were killed in a fight, only the players who died from Team A and Team B are expected to avoid the members from the opposing team. Characters who have died are expected to leave the area if the victor shows up and to not interact with them at all. In areas where this is more difficult such as Skaljard or Andunor, just do your best and try not to draw attention.

| Regarding Ressurection and the Waiving of the 24h Rule
| |
| | |
| :After you are killed by another player, if they attempt to resurrect you and you accept the prompt (even on accident), then it will waive the 24h rule. Be very careful when doing this, because this means they are allowed to kill you again and vice versa.
| |
| | |
| :In player-vs-player, it is very easy to get upset. If you feel like something is wrong or the other players handled the situation unfairly, remain calm, do not contact them, compile evidence and all related material then forward it to the Active DMs subgroup on the forums asking for assistance.
| |
| | |
| === Theft and PvP ===
| |
| The rules indicates that no character can successfully steal from the same player twice in one 24-hour period. This includes, but is not limited to, stealing gold from a dead corpse (whether you caused the death or not)and of course, pickpocketing.
| |
| | |
| ===Assassins===
| |
| | |
| Characters with Assassin levels are allowed to ignore this rule on their assassination contract. An assassin is allowed to attack and ambush their contract's mark within twenty four hours after offering sufficient roleplay with them.
